New products!

I'm playing around with some new products for Brighter Day, and one of them is this makeup bag design. It's lightly padded, has a handle on one side, and is lined with a laminated fabric, so it's easy to clean. It actually fits most of my makeup inside, too!
So here's my question...
What do you look for in a makeup or toiletry bag? Anything I should make sure to include? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

A few of these should be up in the shop in the next week or so, so keep your eyes peeled!

  1. Perhaps a pocket on the inside for smaller items like hair pins so you're not searching around the bottom of it like I constantly am! Having said that I love everything about that makeup bag - gorgeous fabric and gorgeous shape.

  3. I'm loving that bag!!! :) As far as things to add...I dont' think I would change anything! I like my makeup bag to be on the smaller side and really durable (loving the laminated fabric idea!) I actually use an old clutch lined with a ziplock bag for my makeup. Works well, but might just have to ask for one of these for my birthday! :)

  4. Pockets or zippered pocket on inside. Don't know the actual size, but I like my toiletry bag on the larger size, so everything can go in 1 bag- including hair brush, etc. Can you share the pattern? I have been looking to make something like that. Thanks

  5. I like it! I'd love to have a zippered pocket on the outside, and a pocket or two on the inside for small things like bobby pins. I love having a handle on the outside on both ends of the zipper - even easier to open and close, that way.

  6. So cute! The most important things to me in a make up bag/travel bag are the washability and how easy it is to see everything inside. I like a zipper to open the whole length of the bag, if not more down the sides. So cute!! You have such a creative eye and I love your blog!

  7. My make-up bags have to be long or deep enough to carry my make-up brushes flat--I don't like shoving them in at a diagonal because it seems to ruin the bristles. Love the fabric on your new beta product!

  10. I love this style of make up bag, and I think the laminated liner is the perfect touch. I agree with adding a small pocket on the inside for pins, extra contact lenses, etc.

PS, I love keeping up with your blog. Your posts are always inspiring, and I am so glad that I came across Elm Street Life!

  11. I am always searching around for makeup brushes... maybe a matching roll for brushes that can also be purchased?!

  12. I just started following your blog and etsy shop and am really enjoying them!

I like my makeup bags to have a lot of compartments for organization as well as a cleanable material.

  15. love it! i prefer to keep my brushes separate from my make-up to keep the traces of make-up that remain on the brushes from getting all over the make-up and bag. my favorite make up bag is linen has elastic for each of the brushes to stay put then a zippered compartment and it's washable so maybe a removable bag for the brushes that's machine washable.

though what you have created will fly off the shelves like fireflies

  18. I LOVE that you posted this because I was just telling a friend that I'm about ready to chuck mine out in the garbage. I think compartments are key. The one I have right now is just a big empty space, and while that's fine for a few things, it's challenging once I start buying brushes and new lipsticks. I think, if anything, the brushes need to be in a separate place from the makeup. Residue always gets out from my compact or my shadows or blush, and usually, that ends up on the brushes. Gross. After taking a stage makeup class, I know how important it is to have clean brushes, and that's the biggest downfall of my bag. I find myself keeping them elsewhere, now, which is a bit of a hassle when it's time to put makeup on. So all that to say - I think a bag with a separate place for brushes is super important.

  19. It looks sooo cute :)

I agree on the comments on a small pocket to put bobby pins, contact lenses, etc. (small things that you don't want getting lost at the bottom of the bag). I also have a makeup bag that's pretty large, but has a matching little pouch to store things in inside of the main bag, which I thought was a good idea. You might also consider a piece of elastic or a side pocket with an elasticized top so you can store little bottles and stuff upright along the side....not really necessary in my opinion, but I have seen some makeup bags with that.
